The oldest record still in Montana’s books is C.M. Schmauch’s 1952 bull moose. The massive animal scored 195 1/8, good enough to be No. 8 overall for the shiras moose, a smaller species found in the lower 48 states. The next closest bull in the state’s book was 9 inches smaller and was picked up in Ravalli County.
